Free Technology for Teachers: Free Music for Classroom Projects

Free Technology for Teachers: Free Music for Classroom Projects | Professional Learning Design | Scoop.it

Creating multimedia projects like videos, podcasts, and audio slideshows is a great way for students to develop a variety of skills. Some of those skills are technical skills while others are soft skills that they can carry over into all aspects of academic life. Those soft skills include respecting the intellectual property of others. That's why when students create multimedia projects they should try to use media of their own creation, media in the public domain, or media that has a Creative Commons license. Finding images that meet that criteria is easy. Finding audio that fits that criteria is a bit of a challenge for some. That's why I've put together a new video that highlights my three go-to places to find free audio that students can use in their multimedia projects.

Free Technology for Teachers: Three Tips to Get More Out of Webinars

Free Technology for Teachers: Three Tips to Get More Out of Webinars | Professional Learning Design | Scoop.it

Back in 2007 or 2008 I watched a professional development webinar for the first time. I can't remember exactly what the webinar was about (it was something about Second Life), but I do remember thinking that I didn't get "it." After that I watched bunch of free webinars about all kinds of things because that's what I thought I should do to be a modern teacher staying current in his practice. Finally, in late 2011 I paid to join a webinar and something weird happened, I got a lot more out of the experience. Since then almost every webinar I've attended, both free and paid, has been a good learning experience. Here's what I figured out about learning from webinars.

Steve Whitmore's insight:
Good tips on staying engaged in a webinar.   Perhaps these should be included in the norms?

ASWB Continuing Education Handbook (4/1/19)

ASWB Continuing Education Handbook (4/1/19) | Professional Learning Design | Scoop.it
The ASWB ACE program was created to help licensing boards evaluate a CE provider’s ability to present social workers with effective, relevant continuing education. Today, the program also evaluates individual courses. ACE approval demonstrates that a provider or course has been rigorously reviewed and found to offer quality continuing education according to best practices. To be an ASWB Approved Continuing Education provider or to earn individual course approval, an applicant must demonstrate compliance with the ACE standards contained in the ACE Handbook and remain in compliance throughout the approval period.

Free Technology for Teachers: Zoom Now Offers a Cool Immersive View

Free Technology for Teachers: Zoom Now Offers a Cool Immersive View | Professional Learning Design | Scoop.it

Are you tired of looking at the same old view in your Zoom meetings? You're not alone! It appears that even the people who work at Zoom are tired of the same old views. To remedy that problem, on Monday Zoom introduced a new immersive view option for Mac and Windows users. Zoom's immersive view will show your meeting participants on same screen in background of your choosing. Zoom has a bunch of pre-made immersive view backgrounds that you can pick from including an art gallery view, a fireside chat view, board rooms, and even an outdoor setting. You can also upload your own image to use as part of an immersive view.

The Super Mario Effect - Tricking Your Brain into Learning More | Mark Rober | TEDxPenn

When 50,000 of Mark Rober's 3 million YouTube subscribers participated in a basic coding challenge, the data all pointed to what Rober has dubbed the Super Mario Effect. The YouTube star and former NASA engineer describes how this data-backed mindset for life gamification has stuck with him along his journey, and how it impacts the ways he helps (or tricks) his viewers into learning science, engineering, and design. Mark Rober has made a career out of engineering, entertainment, and education. After completing degrees in mechanical engineering from Brigham Young University and the University of Southern California, Rober joined NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory in 2004. In his nine years as a NASA engineer, seven of which were on the Mars rover Curiosity team, Rober worked on both the Descent Stage (the jet pack that lowered the Rover to the surface) and some hardware on the Rover top deck for collecting samples. In 2011, Rober’s iPad-based Halloween costume helped launch both his creative costume company, Digital Dudz, and his YouTube channel, which now boasts 3 million subscribers and 400 million views. His videos focus on creative ideas and science- and engineering-based pranks and activities. Rober is a regular guest on "Jimmy Kimmel Live!". Today, he does research and development work for a large technology company in Northern California, where he lives with his wife and son. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
