A warm welcome to our new Board members

Following the recent election, we are delighted to announce that ESMA has four new Board Members. Congratulations to Thomas Anker (UK), Beatriz Casais (Portugal), Giuseppe Fattori (Italy) and Carla Rodriguez-Sanchez (Spain) on their election. We are looking forward to working with you to develop the work of ESMA. Also a big thank you to all the candidates who stood for election. For those who were unsuccessful, we hope that you will continue to get involved in the work of ESMA.

News from the National Reps

Italy

Giuseppe Fattori, one of ESMA’s recently elected board members, has contributed a chapter on Social Media and Health Promotion for the recently published  book ‘Ethical Approaches to Marketing’.  This book seeks to demonstrate the potential for marketing and marketeers to make important contributions “on the side of the angels”.


Ireland

The Whitaker Institute in Galway has been holding a serious of webinars to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the publication of Kotler and Zaltman’s seminal social marketing paper. The final webinar takes place on Friday 19th November and will feature two presentations:

  • ‘Arise Social Marketers, Planet Earth Needs You’by Professor Gerard Hastings
  • ‘Covid and social marketing, this much I know’ by Professor Alan Tapp.

New Key Concepts in Social Marketing Course Launched

On the 8th November, the iSMA, ESMA and other affiliated global social marketing associations, launched a high quality, low-cost introduction to Social Marketing course that reflects their endorsed concepts of social marketing and their application in a global context.

The course is delivered as a set of high-quality recorded presenter inputs combined with live Q&A sessions.

The three sessions cover:

  • The importance of adopting a citizen-centric policy and programme development and how Social Marketing can enable and enhance its delivery.
  • What Social Marketing is, its core principle and its key concepts.
  • The Social Marketing planning process and evaluation.

The course has been designed to appeal to a global audience with content focused on the application of social marketing in a broad range of fields including health, environment, social justice and social development reflecting the United Nations SDG’s.

Course fees have been designed to make the course accessible to a world-wide audience.

UNITAR resources

The United Nations Institute of Training and Research (UNITAR) has recently published some useful behaviour change e-learning resources, developed by Jeff French.
  • Social norms aimed at improving road safety: designing effective behaviour change campaigns
  • Designing and implementing campaigns in support of vaccination efforts to prevent and reduce the spread of COVID-19

SPARKS 2021 Conference

The 9th Annual SPARKS conference will be held virtually over the course of two days on Monday, December 6th and Tuesday, December 7th.

This year, social marketing experts from across the Pacific Northwest will speak on behaviour change related to some of the most urgent issues we face; discussing topics of public health, injury prevention, environmental health and protection, and community well-being. Early Bird discounted registration is open until 11:59pm, November 5th. The 5th European Social Marketing Conference

The XXI International Congress on Public and Nonprofit Marketing (IAPNM 2022)

The XXI International Congress on Public and Nonprofit Marketing (IAPNM 2022) will be held in Braga, at the University of Minho (Portugal), on the 7th and 8th of July 2022. Beatriz Casais (one of the ESMA Board members) and Ana Maria Soares (University of Minho) are co-chairing this academic congress.

This edition’s main theme is ‘uniting marketing efforts for the common good: a challenge for four sectors’. Please consider submit your research on the topic of public and nonprofit marketing by 19 March 2022 for peer review.

Tribute to Lynne Eagle

It is with sadness that we would like to inform colleagues that Lynne Eagle has died in hospital in her native New Zealand after a short illness. We know that the many thousands of people in the Social Marketing and wider marketing community will share our sense of profound loss of a highly valued, scholar, colleague and friend.
