Monitoring The Pulse of Healthcare Social Media

A warm welcome all new subscribers. Thank you for allowing me into your in-box. I know it's precious in there. If you decide you no longer wish to receive these emails you can unsubscribe at any time by clicking the link at the bottom of the newsletter.

This week I attended EWMA 2016 the European Wound Management Associations's conference to speak on the rights of patients with chronic conditions.  It took place in the beautiful city of Bremen, Germany. I managed to steal some time away from the meeting to see some of the stunning architecture of this medieval city. I took some photographs and posted them to Facebook where they gathered lots of likes and comments. It reminded me once again how much photos and images drive high engagement on Facebook. If I look at my top ranked content on my Facebook business page and measure the virality index using the Facebook “Insights” tool, the best performing are all images or photos.

Digital Health 2016: Top 100 Influencers and Brands

Lists of top influencers appear with regularity on the web; some more valuable than others. These lists can be subjective (and sometimes divisive), but they are useful for newcomers to the field to find and follow influential accounts. The latest list to hit the interweb comes from UK based influencer marketing company onalytica, who analysed 13K+  tweets from January 19th – April 18th 2016 mentioning the keywords digital health. It then identified the top 100 most influential brands and individuals leading the discussion on Twitter. Onalytica's process is transparent and the resulting list is worth checking out. The analysis also includes the top ten topics that were discussed in this three-month period and you can see the most popular topics in the graph below.

The Draw of Social Media for Oncology Professionals

Nathan A. Pennell is an oncologist who blogs at ASCO Connection, the official blog of the American Society for Clinical Oncology. ASCO, in my opinion, are leading the field in harnessing the power of social media. In a recent blog post, Dr Pennell, wrote; "instead of another lecture on how to sign up for social media, I thought I would share my experience, along with specific examples of how it has directly led to professional benefits." You can read the post here.

Social Spotlight

Dr Leslie Robinson
This week I interviewed Dr Leslie Robinson, Senior Lecturer in Diagnostic Radiography, at the University of Salford, Manchester, UK, on how she uses social media in her teaching, research, and continuing professional development.  Leslie is currently leading the WOMMeN (Word of Mouth Mammogram e Network) project to explore the value of social networks for connecting practitioners with clients of the NHS breast screening programme. You can read my interview with Leslie here.
My client, Oneview Healthcare, a young. energetic, early stage company, focused on revolutionizing the patient experience across the continuum of care, is currently seeking an experienced Marketing Manager for their North American activities. Based in Chicago, this role will be responsible for driving brand awareness and may have an opportunity to support marketing and branding efforts in Australia and MENA. It's an exciting career challenge for someone who challenges traditional marketing thinking in the healthcare arena.
