How do I know if I have a good settlement offer on my California personal injury claim?

Steven M. Sweat's insight:

Getting in a car accident or being injured in any other way through the fault of another person is, fortunately, not something that happens every day.  Because of this, it is hard to know how to properly handle the personal injury claim from the moment the bodily harm happens to the time of deciding whether to settle the case and for how much. This is a helpful article to give you some of the main factors to consider when deciding whether you have a good settlement offer on your case.  For a free consultation on any California personal injury claim, call us 24/7 at 866-966-5240.

Church of Scientology demands court to let it handle Danny Masterson rape case through 'religious arbitration'

Church of Scientology demands court to let it handle Danny Masterson rape case through 'religious arbitration' | California Personal Injury Attorney Information | Scoop.it
The Church of Scientology is hoping to circumvent the U.S. civil justice system by pushing for a lawsuit against church member Danny Masterson to go into “religious arbitration.”
Steven M. Sweat's insight:

Arbitration agreements have been slowly eroding civil liberties in the past several decades.  The right to a trial by jury for civil redress is guaranteed by the U.S. Constitution but, courts have been upholding arbitration agreements like this one.  We'll have to wait and see if this particular agreement is upheld.

Man, 19, gravely injured in Los Angeles high-rise fire dies - WFMJ.com

Man, 19, gravely injured in Los Angeles high-rise fire dies - WFMJ.com | California Personal Injury Attorney Information | Scoop.it
A 19-year-old French citizen who was gravely injured when flames tore through a high-rise apartment tower this week died Friday evening at a hospital, authorities said.
Steven M. Sweat's insight:

"It shouldn't take another tragedy to require older buildings in Los Angeles to be retrofitted with sprinklers," was a quote from a city official.  Unfortunately, that's just what happened recently in a high rise L.A. apartment complex where a fire killed one and injured several others due, in part, to lack of sprinklers.  For information or legal help with any fire accident claim in Los Angeles, call 310-592-0445 or Toll Free 866-966-5240

California is still stuck in the past on medical malpractice payouts

California is still stuck in the past on medical malpractice payouts | California Personal Injury Attorney Information | Scoop.it
There will likely be a fiercely fought ballot initiative next November to bring California’s malpractice payouts into the 21st century.
Steven M. Sweat's insight:

It is absolutely absurd that California set a limit on medical malpractice awards in 1973 and has never even adjusted that number to account for inflation much less address the unfairness of the limit.  Did you know that if a doctor amputates that wrong limb, you will never get more than $250,000 for general damages in the State of California?  This is the law and it needs to be updated and changed!
