"2030 Not a Fairytale" is a beautiful picture book dedicated to introducing young children to the seventeen Global Goals for Sustainable Development. In September 2015 world leaders gathered at the United Nations in New York to adopt the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. The Global Goals are universal and call for action to ensure economic development, social progress and environment sustainability worldwide.
Economists, politicians, religious leaders, development professionals and celebrities hailed the seventeen Global Goals as a real opportunity to tackle the most urgent issues facing people and planet. The overarching promise of the Global Goals to "leave no one behind" means the global community must come together, united in the collective vision to transform our world.
If the Global Goals are indeed going to impact every person on the planet, then the agenda needs to be understood by everyone. The official UN document is long and the wording is technical, so the aim of this book is to introduce the Global Goals to preschool children through a colourful picture book with simplistic explanations of each goal.
An understanding of the Global Goals is the first step to using the Post-2015 Development Agenda as a platform to advocate for real change in our world. Introducing children to the Global Goals at a young age it allows them to later understand the commitments made under the agreement and the agenda their governments have ratified. Only then can they hold their political representatives accountable and demand action to realize the collective vision for a just and sustainable future for all.
