Education Sciences | Free Full-Text | A Narrative Approach to Foster the Construction of Recursive Thinking in High School Students

Education Sciences | Free Full-Text | A Narrative Approach to Foster the Construction of Recursive Thinking in High School Students | Help and Support everybody around the world | Scoop.it
In this paper, we will explain the development of a mathematical activity involving narrative and short stories in particular, with the aim of investigating whether it is possible to use the narrative approach to promote the construction of recursive thinking in high school students from a four-year scientific high school (Grades 11 and 12). We present qualitative research based on the networking of two theoretical frameworks used to analyze students’ protocols and the issues surfacing during class discussion: Abstraction in Context (AiC) and Documenting Collective Activity (DCA). In our research, the students, divided into small groups, dealt with a highly immersive “story problem” with the Sierpinski Triangle as its central element. The task was designed to ensure consistency with the story and involved the construction, with GeoGebra 6.0 software, of a fractal city, Fractlandia, with squares and sinkholes. The preliminary results show that the story proposed functioned as a motivation to solve the problem, and the last questions of the task proved the most engaging for the students, mainly because of the connection with the story, and also because they involved some reflection about the behavior to the infinity of the perimeter and the area of the Sierpinski Triangle.

The Invisible Revolution: Wearable AI and Education

The Invisible Revolution: Wearable AI and Education  | Help and Support everybody around the world | Scoop.it

Before we hit the panic button, there’s a bright side. Wearable AI could finally break the cycle of “memorize facts, sit the test”. Why? Because when students can subtly access any snippet of information, traditional tests become pointless. Even if we suspect only a single student has this tech, it’s time to shift our approach. Soon, we won’t be able to tell who has invisible AI assistance and who doesn’t.

Devices like Meta Ray-Ban and Brilliant Labs Frame AI glasses are more than mere “cheating tools”. They force us to dismantle outdated assessment models that reward rote memorization of easily retrievable facts. As the concept of “open-book” becomes the ever-present reality, how we assess students needs to evolve.

Aprendemos siempre: Comentarios al reporte Edu Trends- Aprendizaje a lo largo de la vida | Help and Support everybody around the world | Scoop.it

“Aprendemos siempre”.

Up in the Air - Educators and AI - Detection-Discipline-Distrust via Center for Democracy & Technology

Up in the Air - Educators and AI - Detection-Discipline-Distrust via Center for Democracy & Technology | Help and Support everybody around the world | Scoop.it

"Educators are having a very different experience with
generative artificial intelligence (AI) since the 2022-23 school
year came to a close. K-12 schools have now had the opportunity
to take a breath and regroup to determine how to get a grip on the
explosion of generative AI in the classroom – after the education
sector was caught off guard when ChatGPT burst abruptly onto the scene during the last school year.

To understand how teachers are currently interacting with and
receiving support on this technology, the Center for Democracy &
Technology (CDT) conducted a nationally representative survey of
middle and high school teachers in November and December 2023.

This research builds on previous CDT findings that highlighted how
schools were failing to enact and/or share policies and procedures
on generative AI and how, as a result, teachers lacked clarity and
guidance, were more distrustful of students, and reported that
students were getting in trouble due to this technology. "

Creativity with, or against, the machines?

Creativity with, or against, the machines?  | Help and Support everybody around the world | Scoop.it

I mentioned a few blog posts back that, for me as an educationalist, the role of technology is to give us the opportunity to spend more time in the pointy, top-end, of the educational triangle diagram (you can pick any educational triangle diagram – they all imply that the pointy bit is what we are aiming for). Creativity, or something akin to creativity, often labels the pointy bit for example, in Bloom’s taxonomy the term ‘Create’ is used. In other frameworks it relates to agency and identity – various forms of self-determination and expression.

How Education Service Agencies transform Data Fragmentation to Data Integration  | Help and Support everybody around the world | Scoop.it

Recently, EdSurge spoke with ESA representatives to learn more about the importance of collaboration for making data interoperability a reality across education agencies and edtech providers. Without interoperability, data silos emerge, making it difficult for stakeholders to access and use the full range of capabilities offered by different edtech products. Adopting a data standard, such as the Ed-Fi Data Standard, enables education agencies to integrate multiple systems and tools, share data securely and leverage technology effectively to improve teaching, learning and administrative processes.

Are new strategies needed for Learning Design services to have real impact?  | Help and Support everybody around the world | Scoop.it

Learning design in UK higher education has been on an interesting journey in recent years. It’s grown in popularity as a term, an activity, and as a moniker for roles that support learning & teaching activity.

The term, along with the role type associated with it; namely a learning designer, is one of the newer titles on the list of learning & teaching support roles in UK higher education. It is more contemporary than titles such as education developer, academic developer and learning technologist, arguably possessing greater cachet as a result.

The adoption of generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) has shuffled the list of top skills businesses want from professionals in 2024, according to a new job site study and education industry data. Far from replacing workers, GenAI appears poised to transform the way technologists and others work, allowing them to focus more on creative tasks such as product development, and less on mundane tasks that can be automated.

Cómo rayarte menos y relativizar más. | Help and Support everybody around the world | Scoop.it
