Soft skills: qué, por qué y para qué | Edumorfosis.it | Scoop.it

Juan Domingo Farnós: “La universidad necesita un cambio de manera urgente” | Edumorfosis.it | Scoop.it

7 Artificial Intelligence trends that could reshape Education in 2024

7 Artificial Intelligence trends that could reshape Education in 2024 | Edumorfosis.it | Scoop.it

Generative AI allows educators to move beyond traditional learning systems and provide a more responsive, personalized learning experience in which students demonstrate mastery, not just passing grades.

The future of AI in education is not just about adopting new technologies; it’s about reshaping our approach to teaching and learning in a way that is as dynamic and diverse as the students we serve,” XQ Institute Senior Advisor Laurence Holt said. He also formerly worked in the education, business and technology sectors. Through AI, we can also transcend the limitations of the Carnegie Unit — a century-old system in which a high school diploma is based on how much time students spend in specific subject classes.

[PDF] Inteligencia Artificial y Aprendizaje Activo

[PDF] Inteligencia Artificial y Aprendizaje Activo | Edumorfosis.it | Scoop.it

How to evaluate Critical Thinking in the age of AI

How to evaluate Critical Thinking in the age of AI  | Edumorfosis.it | Scoop.it
  • Many campuses have taken steps to curtail the use of generative AI tools, often over fears of plagiarism—but these fears overshadow AI’s potential as a pedagogical tool.
  • Because GenAI’s responses are immediate and nonjudgmental, learners can develop their critical thinking processes as they freely reflect on thoughts, responses, and concepts.
  • GenAI has not supplanted the role of instructors in the classroom. Rather, it has become a tool that we can use to teach, inspire, and guide our learners.

AI in the classroom: I require my students to use ChatGPT

AI in the classroom: I require my students to use ChatGPT | Edumorfosis.it | Scoop.it

EL PAÍS spoke with a dozen teachers and students over the last few weeks and was hard-pressed to find a teacher who has not mentioned it in class. Students expressed surprise at how it can help them in their schoolwork. “Everyone in our project team knew about it, except for one girl, and it was incredibly helpful for our work,” says a 17-year-old student from Madrid. “We’ll probably get an A because of it.” The assignment was to develop a business plan, and the students were having trouble thinking of weaknesses, strengths and potential customers. “We asked ChatGPT to expand on our input, and we copied everything it produced after deleting some examples that we felt were too complex to be ours. But that’s all,” she said.

Don’t just Chat(GPT): Turn on critical interrogation

Don’t just Chat(GPT): Turn on critical interrogation | Edumorfosis.it | Scoop.it

Critical thinking is often seen as the antidote to Generative AI. But what if educators took it one step further back and aimed to encourage students’ curiosity? Giuseppe Cimadoro explains:

Presentations on the use of Artificial Intelligence in higher education often start with promising titles that convey positive messages about AI’s potential for learning. Discussions may even feature catchy phrases such as “deep learning”, which reflect a hopeful view of AI’s impact and the trend towards embracing this technology in the HE industry. These presentations set goals and provide examples of how AI can foster an innovative, often creative learning environment, one we might describe as “next gen”, borrowing a term from the world of video games.

How AI is reshaping our Universities

How AI is reshaping our Universities | Edumorfosis.it | Scoop.it

Perhaps the most obvious area in which AI can reshape higher education is in the ways we teach and the experiences we create for students. Without AI, the best we could hope for would be to tailor teaching and assessment methods to specific classes or even subsets of students within those classes. AI gives us the potential for a personalized learning experience for every student.

Bringing AI into the classroom isn’t about replacing the educator, but about empowering efficiency and effectiveness. “I believe that there’s always going to be a position and a role for excellent educators to excite and enthuse and to bring that human experience into the classroom,” according to Jennings.

[PDF] Generative AI in Higher Education

[PDF] Generative AI in Higher Education | Edumorfosis.it | Scoop.it

Generative AI (GAI) has quickly gained a significant foothold in academia, and is now used widely for teaching, learning, and research purposes. While national trends in student and faculty adoption are unclear, surveys conducted by individual institutions have found that approximately 50% to 65% of both students and faculty have used ChatGPT or one of its commercial competitors. If current trends continue, in the near future GAI use will be ubiquitous, fully integrated into the core mission of colleges and universities.

Understanding the value of individual products in a now-crowded marketplace is a major challenge for end users and for university CIOs, IT departments, and others involved in decision-making.

While the full effects of this transformation are, at best, clear only in outline, 2023 saw both well-established vendors and start-ups racing to bring GAI applications optimized for use in educational contexts to market. As we write this brief, new products are appearing so rapidly that just keeping up with them is difficult, and understanding the value of individual products in a now-crowded marketplace is a major challenge for end users and for university CIOs, IT departments, and others involved in decision making about which products will be supported and/or licensed for campus users.

Since last fall, Ithaka S+R has been partnering with 19 colleges and universities from the US and Canada to assess GAI’s impact on higher education and make evidence-based, proactive decisions about how to manage the far-ranging effects of GAI. As part of this project, Ithaka S+R has been cataloging GAI applications geared towards teaching, learning, and research in the higher education context. Today, we are excited to make our Product Tracking tool (https://sr.ithaka.org/our-work/generative-ai-product-tracker/) publicly available.

The promise of machine learning in education is tempered by the standard concerns: biased data, privacy violations, inequitable outcomes, and so on. There remains a significant gap between how the technology is imagined and how, in fact, it is deployed and used.

We are pioneering a participatory AI approach with the goal of developing ethical, human-centered, and equitable AI solutions for education,”  says Stanford Graduate School of Education Assistant Professor Hariharan Subramonyam, a faculty fellow with the Stanford Institute for Human-Centered AI. “By engaging teachers and students from the outset, our goal is to ensure that our data practices are inclusive and representative of diverse learner experiences and needs.”
